Organizations:
Cypher will print plastic prepaid, directed-spend debit cards for each program. The cards will be printed with the organization's logo and an encoded mag-stripe.
Organizations decide what items they would like their participants to be able to purchase. This can be as specific as the exact size and brand of an item (ex. 16oz. Dasani bottled water) or as broad as a category (ex. Any fresh produce).
Cypher takes the list of eligible items and loads that into our Item Adjudication Platform which is connected to the retailers point-of-sale (POS).
The organization distributes the cards to participants and has the individual activate and register the card in their name and assign the card a personal identification number (PIN).
With the card distributed and registered, the organization can monitor the spend on each card. Full reporting is available to the organization's administrator. This includes the individual's name, card balance, items purchased, location of purchases.
The organization can cancel the card at anytime and recover all unspent funds. This is especially useful in the case of a lost or stolen card.
The organization can add funds at anytime or have the card reloaded on a regular basis (ex. The first of every month).
Individuals:
The sponsoring organization will distribute a prepaid, directed-spend debit card to participants. These individuals will be asked to activate and register their card via a website or telephone. During this process they will give their name, so the organization knows who is using the card and assign the card a personal identification number (PIN).
The individual can see a list of eligible items on the organization’s website and check their available balance on a website or via telephone app.
When the individual goes through check-out at the store and swipes the organizations prepaid, directed-spend debit card, all eligible items will be paid for assuming there are enough funds available. Any non-eligible items can be paid for in the same transaction with another form of tender.
Each receipt will have a message that says how much was paid by the sponsoring organization.
If a card is lost or stolen, the individual should contact the issuing organization to request a replacement.
